Yearbook Faces of the 1900s

So Hyrum came across this website the other day and we both sat down and had some fun with it.  Here's a few of each of us that we found to be quite funny.

Hyrum in 1952...big ears, but not bad looking eh? ;)
Hyrum in 1994. This probably looks the most like him but, still not quite the same.
Hyrum in 1998.  Ever wanted to know what he would look like gaining another hundred pounds...well there ya have it! :)

Amiee in 1956.  I look like a grandma!

Amiee in 1966.  HUGE hair!!!  Funny how I see people who have hair like this in Idaho and Utah...I guess the style is coming back?

Amiee in 1996.  This probably looks the "most" like me but still...yikes!

Kyla in 1976....hahaha!  What a baby face. :)

Kyla in 1984...year I was born....interesting.

Kyla in 1996.  I don't know what do you think...does she look like me?!
What are YOUR favorites?

Potty Training Already?!

Well not really.  It's not quite what we hoped for anyway.  This is as close as Kyla gets to "sitting on the can". :) hahaha.

In other news....Kyla kind of got her first hair cut the other day.  The reason why I say "kind of" is because there were literally only about 10 pieces of hair that I actually cut.  She had a few longer pieces of hair in the front where her bangs are that became pretty long.  So I snipped them off!  Here's a picture for proof.

Return with Honor

I would like to announce that my wonderful brother Brian just returned home from serving a faithful and honorable 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Indianapolis, Indiana yesterday!!  I'm sooo excited for his return!!!  We've been able to talk, chat, and have fun together, even though he's in WA and I'm in ID.  I haven't seen him yet but it definitely has been fun to have him call me, me call him and see him on facebook.  I've even started making a list of girls he could date....haha, I know he just got home and probably is scared to death of girls still but it's been fun anyway. I'm so glad that we're best buds.

I am so grateful for my brother and the sacrifice he has made to serve a mission for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He has definitely touched many lives around him not only in Indiana, but those in other states that have known him as well.  He has gained much knowledge and testimony from his missionary experiences and I'm so glad that he was willing and able to serve.  I definitely felt strengthened and have felt his Spirit and love through out his mission; he has been a great example to all.  I love you Brian!

Welcome Home!!

Weekend Family Reunion Camping Trip

We had a fun filled and exciting weekend.  Hyrum and I love camping.  We haven't had a chance to do it this summer except for this weekend.  Every year Hyrum's grandma has a family reunion of some sort usually at a different place every year.  This year it was at a place called Lake Walcott (next to Rupert, ID before Twin Falls).  It was so much fun.  Hyrum's uncles have boats and jet skis so we all had a chance to do all the fun water sports.  I water skiied, jet skiied, and went tubing.  If we had a little more time I would have tried wakeboarding!  Kyla loved being on the boat.  We all had so much fun playing in the water!  In fact, we all had so much fun that I hardly took any pictures...bummer!  Here are a couple that I did get though.

On a side note, Kyla has been counting to 4 for the last month or so.  It's crazy how fast she picks up on things.  She also knows all of her colors and says them constantly.  On another note, my brother Brian comes home from his mission on Thursday!!  We are all so very excited!  He has served a very honorable and faithful mission to Indianapolis, Indiana and I know he has touched many lives.  I won't be able to go home for his return but I can't wait to talk to him on the phone anytime I want! He is one of my greatest friends and it will be so fun to see how much he's changed. :)  Anyway, that's all for us!

Family Night and Silly Faces

Monday for Family Night we went by the Rexburg Temple and sat on the grounds to have a lesson and eat ice cream.  It was very fun!  Kyla loved looking at the angel Moroni on top and kept saying, "bempo" (temple) and "nonee, noni, momomee" (any of those words she says for Moroni).  Afterwards we took a walk around the beautiful place and got a few pictures.

This is what happens when Kyla and I are stuck at home without a car or anywhere to go the whole day! :) (I know these pictures are bad.  We took them in the bathroom with bad light and I took them myself.  It was quite difficult with a squirmy one.)

Recently Kyla has been loving the shower.  She has always loved her baths, but now she wants to take a shower all the time.  So this is what happens when we let her.

Funny story: Hyrum was helping Kyla with her "shower" by handing her the shower head.  She held on to it and then like she needed her privacy and wanted to be modest or something, she closed the shower curtain!  It was the funniest thing ever.  I guess it's never too young to teach a girl modesty even in front of her dad. :)

International Street Festival and Idaho Falls Zoo

It's been quite the summer for us.  It seems like every weekend we're busy doing something.  During the week Hyrum works all day and then seems to be gone most of the evenings helping or serving someone.  Even though Hyrum likes to relax on Saturdays--his only real relaxation day, he's such a trooper for coming along with Kyla and I (we both get sick of being inside sometimes and just want to go do something fun with dad!) just to spend some time with us!  We sure love him!

I forgot to post some pictures of Jenni's graduation (see 3rd previous post) so here is one in celebration of her big day!

Every year in Rexburg we have something very fun and unique that happens at the end of July.  It's called the International Dance Festival.  Countries from all over the world come and show us dances and how they dress from their culture.  On Monday they had a street festival and parade.  Some of the countries that came this year was France, China, Russia, Belgium, India, Mexico, and a few more.  It's so neat to think that we are all the same across the world despite our languages and skin color.  It makes me want to go travel the world and meet these people from other countries and learn more about their culture.  It's so fascinating to me.  Kyla loved it and was so excited to see the dancing and music.

We went to the Idaho Falls Zoo today and had so much fun! Kyla loved looking at the animals, saying their names and making the sounds.  She probably learned about 10 new animal names just today!  Her favorite was either the snake or the monkey's.    After the zoo we had a picnic at the park and played on the toys for a while.  Kyla was exausted by the end of it all, but it was a very fun morning!

A Crazy Adventure!

We had such a crazy adventure recently.  Here's the story (It's a long one!):

We were invited by our friends to go tubing down the river this last Saturday and thought it would be fun to go.  We found a babysitter for Kyla but couldn't find any tubes to rent so we ended up buying one at the last minute.  We drove to Warm River and nobody knew where anyone was going.  We thought our friends knew and they probably thought that we knew.  The thing with floating a river is that you have to have one car at the ending point and a car at the beginning point and you have to be floating in a safe spot.  We all ended up just driving a little past a campground after leaving one car there; the water was really calm and we saw some people tubing already so we drove another mile or two further hoping to get into the same calm water.  Our friends mentioned that when they came last year they went down a path a little ways before getting in the water.  We parked and saw a trail leading down the mountainside so we took it.  The more we walked the less trail we had but we kept going until we got to the river bank.  In the meantime **Lucy (all names are changed) ended up braking one of her sandals in the mud.  We finally made it to the river and tried to get onto our tubes.  As we got ready to float, one of the guys tubes sunk to the bottom when he tried sitting on it (which wasn't a surprise because of the size of tube he was using).  So me and Marie had to share one tube.  We got it all worked out and floated for about 1 min when I fell off our shared tube and went completely under the water.  Sharing was out of the question now.  One of us would have to walk.  We couldn't walk back to the path we came from because walking upstream was impossible.  We all decided to wade in the water for awhile and hoped that the rapids would calm down a bit.  Well, it didn't.  As we walked for the next hour the mountain side to the right grew steeper and higher.  We eventually had to make a huge decision on what was to happen next since there was a drop off in the river and there was no way around it.  The only thing left to do was to climb the steep mountain hoping it would lead us back to our car.  It was all bushes, trees, weeds, grass, thistles, and thorns.  By this point, Marie had lost both of her shoes down the river, the tube that we just bought popped, and Lucy still had only one shoe.  We decided that we should to leave all the tubes behind because there was no possible way we'd be able to climb the mountain with them in our hands.  Hyrum rushed up ahead of us to check out if the climb was going to be possible.  While he was figuring out the best way to go, and within the first 2 minutes of climbing, pregnant Lucy slipped and fell backwards into a thorn bush/tree.  It was at this point that I thought climbing was going to be impossible and  was never going work.  I thought, "If we ever make it even 1/2 way up this mountain and one of us falls, we will all fall and be seriously injured or killed."  Luckily Lucy was alright except for her bleeding legs from the thorns.  She didn't hit her head which is what we were all worried about.  It looked worse than it actually was.  At least that's what Lucy admitted anyway.

Lucy's brother John volunteered to scale the mountain up to the road so he could get the car and call for help if needed. Luckily he had been in the army in Iraq just a few months earlier so he was the most physically fit for the job.  He brought a tube with him to mark his spot on the road so he knew where we were.  After he left we started climbing.  The only way we were able to get anywhere was to hold onto some sturdy weeds or branches and pull ourselves up.  My feet slipped more times than I could count and I hung on for dear life.  Marie was walking up the mountain barefoot not wanting to take anyone else's shoes.  Lucy was climbing with one shoe and hauling herself and her baby-to-be around.  Lucy's husband was behind her helping her.  I was behind Lucy's husband, Marie behind me, and Hyrum behind everyone.  All in all...very scary.

As I was climbing up the mountain I was thinking of what I needed to learn from this experience.  Although much came to my mind, I couldn't help but think of the Pioneers and what a perfect way to celebrate Pioneer day.  We were in our swimsuits, barefooted, and empty handed.  Although the pioneers had at least decent clothes on our situation was, in a very small way, similar to theirs.  They most likely had to climb mountains just like the one we did, except they had handcarts, covered wagons, oxen, children and babies.  Not to mention they were hungry, sick, weak and tired.  We only climbed a mountain for 2 hours; they climbed one for 12 or more.  As I was thinking about this, I had more faith.  I wanted to get up this mountain.

We did end up making it to the top.  Well, not to the road, but there was a bike bath that lead right into the campsite we parked at.  We walked another hour and finally saw our destination!  We were so grateful we made it back before dark.  We got to the car and drove to the place John was waiting for us at.  He was actually on the phone with 911 as we pulled up and was seconds away from telling them they needed to send a rescue team.  Through it all...I don't think I'll ever go tubing again.  At least not for a long time.

This is what the bike path looked like.  The mountain was 3 times as high and the water was not even close to being this calm.

Even though there were moments I was scared and didn't know what could happen, I knew Heavenly Father was with me.  He helped me through it all.  I know that I am becoming a better person from the lessons I have learned from this experience.  Heavenly Father has a plan and purpose for each of us and I know that is true!
